Rockies sign veteran catcher Andrew Knizner to minor league deal

The Colorado Rockies have added catching depth by signing veteran Andrew Knizner to a minor league contract.

The Colorado Rockies signed veteran catcher Andrew Knizner to a minor league contract on Wednesday. Knizner, 31, has a career .596 OPS and has played for the Cardinals, Rangers, and Giants.

He was released by the Mariners after spring training but opted out of a Triple-A assignment to test the market. Knizner's strong defense and experience make him a solid backup option behind Hunter Goodman.
