Pirates' No. 1 prospect Griffin deep in extension talks

Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Konnor Griffin, the consensus No. 1 prospect, is in deep negotiations for a contract extension since spring training.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports the Pirates have proposed a deal near the eight-year, $111 million range of Corbin Carroll's contract. However, Griffin's camp is seeking a figure closer to the eight-year, $130 million deal recently agreed upon by Roman Anthony.

The 19-year-old infielder was assigned to Triple-A to begin the 2026 season after a strong spring training.
