Jack Nicklaus revealed that he no longer possesses the famous MacGregor Response ZT putter he used to win the 1986 Masters Tournament. The story begins when Nicklaus lent the putter to tennis player Billy Scanlon during a tennis match at his Florida home in the 1990s. "I reached in the room and grabbed a putter and at the time I didn't realize it was THE putter," Nicklaus recalled. Scanlon kept the putter after that, and after his death in 2021, his widow refused to return it despite Nicklaus' attempts to reclaim the historic club.
The putter was reportedly put up for auction, with Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay intending to purchase it. Nicklaus had hoped to display the club in his namesake museum in Ohio or at Augusta National Golf Club, noting it's the only major-winning club he doesn't possess from 1962 onward.
