Ruturaj Gaikwad has matched an unwanted IPL record by losing Chennai Super Kings' first two matches in 2026, matching Ravindra Jadeja's record from 2022.

CSK suffered their second consecutive defeat in IPL 2026, losing to Punjab Kings by five wickets after setting a target of 209. The defeat marks only the second time in franchise history that CSK has lost their first two matches.

Under MS Dhoni, CSK went nearly two decades without such a start. Gaikwad is now enduring the longest losing streak by a captain in CSK's history, with 6 losses. Earlier, Ayush Mhatre's 73 off 43 balls helped CSK post a competitive total, but Shreyas Iyer's 50-ball fifty led Punjab to a successful chase.
