Former Yankees outfielder signs with White Sox immediately after being release
Just three days after being designated for assignment by the New York Yankees, Randal Grichuk has agreed to an MLB deal with the Chicago White Sox, according to reports. Chicago will need to make corresponding moves to clear space on both the active roster and 40-man roster. Adding the veteran makes sense for the White Sox, considering they have been playing competitive baseball this season.

A Short Stint in New York
Grichuk’s time in the Bronx was brief. The 34-year-old made the team out of camp on a minor league deal and served primarily in a platoon role off the bench, seeing most of his opportunities against left-handed pitching. However, the production never followed. realschule-moosburg.de
In limited action, he hit:
- .194 batting average
- .212 on-base percentage
- 0 home runs
- 10 strikeouts in 33 plate appearances
That lack of impact ultimately led to his DFA.
A Specialist Looking to Rebound
While his recent numbers are underwhelming, Grichuk’s track record suggests there’s still value—especially in a matchup-specific role. From 2022–2024, he was one of the most productive hitters in baseball against left-handed pitching, posting:
- .317 average
- .367 OBP
- .573 slugging percentage
He also racked up:
- 25 home runs
- 34 doubles
- 4 triples
That’s the version of Grichuk the White Sox are betting on.
A Low-Risk Move for Chicago
For the White Sox, this is a classic low-risk, potential-reward signing. Grichuk brings veteran experience, power potential, and a clear role against left-handed pitching. If he regains his previous form, he could quickly become a valuable piece in the lineup.
If not, the commitment is minimal. Randal Grichuk didn’t find his footing in New York. But in Chicago, he gets another shot. And for a player with a proven ability to mash left-handed pitching, it might not take much for this move to pay off.

Man Utd ‘interested’ in West Ham star as midfield rebuild begins
Man Utd are reportedly interested in signing West Ham United star Mateus Fernandes in the summer transfer window.
The midfielder has been one of the Hammers’ few bright sparks in a poor campaign that could end in relegation.
Relegation from the Premier League could spark a fire sale at the end of the season and several top-flight clubs will be looking to snap up the 21-year-old.
Man Utd ‘interested’ in West Ham star Mateus Fernandes
According to The Telegraph, United have been “watching Fernandes closely” this season, with their scouting of the player “intensifying” in recent weeks.
The Portugal international is “expected” to leave West Ham this summer if they go down, but the club “want him to stay”.
United “decided against making a move” for him last year when Southampton were relegated, allowing West Ham to buy him for an initial £38 million (plus £4m in add-ons).
The east London outfit may struggle to hold onto Fernandes even if they stay up this term, with the midfielder “being discussed by a number of clubs”.

Fernandes is on Man Utd’s list of transfer targets as they look to rebuild their midfield. Casemiro is set to leave and the club reportedly want to offload Manuel Ugarte, who has failed to make an impact since his £42m move from PSG in 2024.
Football journalist Samuel Luckhurst reports that United are looking to sign three new midfielders this summer as part of this effort, with the Mail claiming they are looking to spend as much as £150m on the position.
The Red Devils have been linked with a host of midfielders, including Elliott Anderson, Adam Wharton, Carlos Baleba, Aurelien Tchouameni and Sandro Tonali.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter owners have already made €40-50m available for the summer transfer window, but the budget would increase with the sale of some players, especially Alessandro Bastoni.
Inter are already preparing to strengthen their team for 2026-27 after winning their 21st Scudetto this season.
Gazzetta reports that club owners Oaktree have already informed directors about their transfer budget for the summer, which will be between €40m and €50m.
The Serie A champions are expected to make significant changes, especially in defence, with Yann Sommer, Matteo Darmian, Francesco Acerbi and Stefan De Vrij leaving at the end of their contracts in June.

The Nerazzurri have already been linked with Liverpool centre-back Giovanni Leoni, who played under Cristian Chivu at Parma last season.
Inter’s strategy in defence will largely depend on whether Bastoni stays beyond the summer.
President Beppe Marotta has confirmed Barcelona’s interest in the Italian centre-back, yet the Nerazzurri have received no formal proposal.

Sassuolo centre-back Tarik Muharemovic has already reached an agreement with the Nerazzurri, but club-to-club talks are still not at an advanced stage.
Experienced midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan is also expected to leave at the end of his contract in June, and according to Gazzetta, Curtis Jones is another Liverpool player targeted by the Nerazzurri.
Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario has been identified as the priority to replace Yann Sommer.
According to Gazzetta, Inter and Chivu could even decide to reshape the team, making suitable signings to a four-man defence.
In this scenario, Atalanta-owned Marco Palestra is a primary target, as the Italian can play either as a full-back or an attacking winger.
As reported by Corriere dello Sport, Inter still hope to sign Nico Paz from Real Madrid next summer, as the Argentine is expected to return to the Bernabeu from Como at the end of the current campaign.
