Colorado QB Had Double Legal Limit of Alcohol When Died

Colorado backup quarterback Dominiq Ponder had double the legal limit of alcohol in his system when he died in a single-car accident March 1, according to an autopsy report.

According to an autopsy report obtained by USA TODAY Sports, Ponder's blood-alcohol content was 0.167 g/100 mL, more than twice the legal limit for driving under the influence in Colorado. The 23-year-old lost control of his 2023 Tesla while negotiating a curve, crashed through a guardrail, hit an electrical pole, and rolled at least once.

His family has started the Dominiq Ponder 722 Foundation in his honor to promote awareness about responsible decision-making and provide scholarships for student-athletes. Colorado plans to honor him with a jersey patch this season.
